In 1801, during the reign of George III, Lord Loughborough was created the first Lord of Rosslyn.
Francis Robert St. Clair Erskine, fourth Earl of Rosslyn, the Patron of the Lodge, died at Dysart, Fife, in September 1890 and is buried in the south-west corner of the grounds of Rosslyn Chapel.
